About Makalu
The fifth highest mountain, notable for its perfect pyramid shape. It is considered one of the most difficult eight-thousanders to climb. Located 22 km southeast of Everest. Its name comes from Sanskrit Maha Kala (Big Black). The final ascent requires technical rock climbing at extreme altitude.
