About Mount cook
The highest mountain in New Zealand. Also known as Aoraki (Cloud Piercer) in Maori. A 1991 avalanche removed 10 m from the summit. The mountain was renamed Aoraki/Mount Cook in 1998. Sir Edmund Hillary practiced here before climbing Everest. Located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, a UNESCO site.
