About Cerro Torre

One of the most controversial peaks in mountaineering. Cesare Maestri claimed the first ascent in 1959 but his partner Toni Egger died and the claim was widely disputed. Maestri returned in 1970 and bolted his way up, calling the mountain a mountain too difficult to be climbed by fair means. The controversy continues today. Its sheer granite spire is one of the most dramatic in the world.
