The 14 Eight-Thousanders: Mountains Above 8,000 Meters

Only 14 mountains rise above 8,000 m, all in the Himalayas and Karakoram. Annapurna was the first summited in 1950. The first person to climb all 14 was Reinhold Messner in 1986.

Edurne Pasaban was the first woman in 2010. Over 40 people have now completed all 14. Annapurna has the highest fatality rate at 33%.

K2 is considered the hardest. Cho Oyu is considered the easiest. All are in Nepal, Pakistan, or China/Tibet..
